GOAL mentees are young women from rural or tribal communities Telangana, Jharkhand, or Bihar who want to make a difference. Mentees were hand-selected by DEF’s team as showing an interest and promise in becoming a digital community leader. By the time mentees begin meeting with mentors, they will have undergone English language training, digital and mobile literacy training, and had a 15-day apprenticeship with a local Soochnapreneur. Mentees will receive a mobile phone as part of this program.
Responsibilities:
- Improve basic English skills
- Attend all trainings and apprenticeship days
- Attend every meeting with mentor group
- Work with mentor to identify a digital project that can be addressed within a 3-month time period
- Take baseline and endline assessments
- Participate in interviews with DEF if requested
Eligibility:
- From a rural or tribal community in Telangana, Jharkhand, or Bihar
- Desire to make a difference in their community
- Desire to learn digital and English speaking skills
- Able to reliably participate in evening mentor group meetings
- Living in an area with a good wireless signal
